Pretty good for the money. One paddle blade broke off after about 1.5 years of heavy use. For $250 less than the AT2 etc I was happy.

For the price this paddle is the best deal. While it does not retain the flex of the AT2 the shape has been proven. It paddles very comfortably and is incredibly durable. This paddle will last you years unless you paddle on dry concrete. The blades are thick enough to not get chipped and worn down as fast as other blades. The shaft is bomber and comfortable to hang onto. Whether you are a new paddler looking for performance at a lower cost or a class five boater not wanting to replace your paddle every year and having the comfort knowing of it will not break in the middle of a drop this is a great paddle.

I beat on the AT 4 E for years. Mostly creeking, some playboating and had no problems. It fit the budget while I was in college, but when I bought an AT 2 SL I can say that I will not be going back to the 4. The 4 is a work horse, not light or smooth, but gets it done.

As a notorious destroyer of river gear it wasn't long before I realized that regular glass paddles weren't going to do it for me. I use the AT4 play for everything and have had the same one for several years. My AT has been dropped of of a 50 ft cliff, caught water off of a forty footer, and endured hundreds if not thousands of miles of Class V. Still it remains reliable and fun to paddle with on top of all that.
