My first whitewater paddle worked well for my first season learning how to kayak. Let my friend use it the next season after he lost his paddle. He was playing on the upper blue before the main rapids- got rolled came up only one blade. Got through the first gorge with half a paddle, then in the second gorge he went into a hole holding a brace with the the half paddle and guess what, the other half broke!! and he was left with nothing but a paddle shaft! quite funny. All in all I think its a good paddle for learning I really liked it, but the shaft might split and you might loose a blade or two eventually. but I also broke my AT2 standard in its first season of use(they did replace it) for what its worth!
