Arkansas River Valley

Colorado's Rocky Mountains are the birthplace of more major rivers than any other mountain range in the U.S. Colorado's Arkansas River, the most popular river in America, provides a variety of kayaking, SUP and rafting experiences ranging from park and play venues to 1/2 day trips to multi-day trips with camping, easy whitewater for family vacation adventures to challenging extreme adventures in Class IV+ whitewater. Follow the beautiful but unpredictable, wild-to-mild river for 150 miles from the historic town of Leadville, through the Sawatch mountain range and Colorado's tallest mountains, all the way down to Pueblo on the edge of Colorado's plains. On any spring or summer day, numerous private and commercial rafters and kayakers will challenge the churning rapids or glide through the calmer sections of the Arkansas. There are 2 amazing play parks that are open to the public for paddling of all abilities. Both are located in the downtown river park areas of the beautiful mountain towns of Buena Vista and Salida.

Arkansas River visitors also enjoy fishing, hiking, camping, picnicking, wildlife watching, mountain biking, rock climbing, and even gold panning along the river's shores, deep canyons, broad valleys and towering mountain peaks found within the upper Arkansas River valley.

Our River Parks: The Upper Arkansas River is home to over 115 miles of whitewater and 2 beautiful whitewater parks.

The Buena Vista Play Park is one of the longest in Colorado with 4 diverse features, dozens of eddies, and class 2 whitewater linking it all together. It is perfect for beginners to experts. Located just Blocks from the CKS store it is a perfect place to demo gear and grab a quick evening surf before dining at one of Buena Vistas new Restaurants. The BV playpark is home to Paddlefest and the BV PRO Rodeo.

The Salida Play Park is one of Colorado's original whitewater parks. It has 2 terrific play features, a permanent slalom course, and is located right next to great hangouts like the Boat House Cantina and Salida Café in the heart of Colorado's largest historic district. Salida is Home to the states largest and longest running whitewater festival FIBARK.
