These plugs keep my ears warm and keeps most of the water out a little might come in but much better than with out. Also keeps your ears from getting surfers ear. I will pay 10 bucks for ear plugs if I don't have to get surgery. Also keeps water out of your ear when your practicing your mcnasties and spending to much time upside down.
Ear infections suck. Minimize the risk of infections, hearing loss, and costly doctors visits with these plugs. Be sure to size them correctly! A pair that is too small will fall out easily and let water into the ear canal. A pair that is too big may cause temporary discomfort and may work themselves out of your ear as well. Get the right size and you'll swear by them!
When I was learning to paddle the old timers always told me to wear ear plugs. For years I failed to do so consistently and now I have chronic ear infections. These things are comfortable and well worth the investment. I recommend you get some spares for your lifejacket as well.
Doc's Proplug Ear Plugs protect the ear by keeping a warm pocket of air in the canal and keeps most cold water out without impeding hearing and balance.
The Scott's valve, a hole (vent) in the inner diaphragm, allows the transfer of air and thus sound waves and differences in air pressure while water does not pass through the hole in wipeouts. The surface water tension on the outside of the valve keeps the water out, but lets air and voice in. Anyone with severe narrowing of the ear canal can avoid frequent water blockage by wearing Proplugs.
In some cases, surfer's ear can only be cured through surgery. However, the latest research suggests that severe exostosis can be slowed by keeping the ears religiously warm around the clock with plugs and woolen/silk head bands, hats, or hoods, especially when sleeping at night.
