Drytops Dry Tops, Semi Dry Tops, Splash Jackets, and the difference between them. Let's face it, if you kayak, you have a drytop, in one form or another. We love our drytops, but with so many options there can be confusion as to what will work the best for you. While you're familiar with the terms drytop, semi-drytop and splash jacket, you may not be that familiar with what they are specifically. Here's a handy guide to help you figure out which is your best option. Drytop/4 Season A drytop has latex gaskets on the wrist and the neck, and have a tunnel system that matches up with your sprayskirt. This jacket will usually keep you about 95% dry. These are great options when you are in level 4 and 5 whitewater, use one with layers for cold water paddling. Semi-Drytop/3 Season Semi Drytops usually have latex wrists, and neoprene necks. They also usually feature a tunnel system. 3 Season drytops are ideal for cold water/warm weather or all day paddling. This option will keep you about 85% dry. Splash Jacket Splash jackets usually don't have gaskets around the wrist or neck, but instead feature a velcro closure to keep some water out. These don't have tunnels, instead they usually feature a pull tab cord to tighten the extra material at the base. These are great when you encounter splashing water, such as recreational kayaking or maybe rafting in warm water, they'll keep excess water off of you, but won't keep you from getting wet if you end up in the water. Happy Paddling!
