February AW Membership Giveaway Winner: Charlie Cagle

Preferred Products:

Top 5 gear picks?  Kayak:  Jackson Fun.  Paddle:  AT2 Flexi.  Accessories:  Jackson "Happy Feet" and "Happy Seat".  The fifth is for recreational kayaking only and not appropriate or acceptable for everyone.  It's the 5 liter Heineken Mini-Keg, never spill or lose your beer again.  And it's the best design out there with the spout on the top of the keg not the bottom.

Squad Bio:

Home town?  Niles, Michigan

Years paddling?  7 years (Recreational), 2 years (Whitewater)

Favorite place to paddle?  For recreational kayaking, the Dowagiac River in Michigan.  It's a quick flowing river but no whitewater.  For the whitewater, locally, it's the East Race in South Bend, Indiana, a 1900 foot stretch of "man made" whitewater. It is actually the first artificial whitewater course in the US.  The flow & underwater obstructions are adjustable creating a course from a Class II up to a Class III.  It's not big but there is enough to play on.  Otherwise give me the Gauley River in West Virginia.

Why I paddle?  Two reasons.  First, when I kayak, recreational or whitewater, there is no better stress reliever.  The peace you find on a river is unmatched by any other activity that I know.  Second, the people you get to meet.  In my experience, I have found that people who paddle have a genuine appreciation and respect for life and this rock we inhabit.

Favorite kayaking flick?  Hotel Charley II

What I do when the river is dry?  Summer:  Music Festivals, Jimmy Buffett Concerts, Long boarding (Street), Scuba Diving, Mountain Biking.  Winter: Snowboarding.
