On most trips I end up taking these pants + a dry top. Sure they are not quite as dry as a full dry suit, but they more than make up for it in versatility. If its cold, I layer them with a IR Union Suit, when it warm I'll often wear these to protect my legs from bushes and thorns. Super durable, yet light and they pack small.
These pants are perfect for this fall weather were moving in to. They keep your booty nice and warm on the river and at the take out waiting on shuttle. With the thick fabric it takes awhile to wear it out and with the waist band up high it keeps the water from trickling down from your tunnel. These are also my rain pants when I am just hanging out.

The only way to stay dry on the river is with a dry suit. A close second is with the IR Splash Pant and IR Comp Jacket combination. Having the versatility of a separate jacket and pant can provide needed warmth on those cold days as well as the ability to lose either layer on those warmer days. Bottom line, I really like these durable pants because they keep the water out. I also use these pants while sailing a small catamaran on Lake Tahoe in bone chilling conditions and they work great. They stop the wind just as well as the water!
I have been using these dry pants for 3 years and have been very happy. The best feature is the neoprene ankle gasket because of ease of getting them on and off (and not worrying about tearing latex). The version I have is a bit baggy but it looks like IR has trimmed them down. Sweet pants
IR Competition Pants are constructed with durable Entrant Shell fabric and neoprene ankle gaskets to keep water out. The 4 layer Entrant fabric is the kind of material you would like to see in a pair of paddling pants: heavy duty. Neoprene ankle gaskets keep water out and allow you to get your feet in and out without the hassle of latex gaskets. These are ideal for any water sports, shorts are comfortable and additional base layers can keep you warmer.
