It may not be the best pump on the market, but it is a good value. I have not had any issues with sand and grit but I use it for rec boating in fresh water. It has held up well.

This pump sucks if you are in any kind of moving water where the sand and dirt is being kicked up. Once the sand gets in the pump it will lock up and you won't be using it anymore. As long as you stay in slow, clear water you should be fine. On the other hand, if you're in slow water you shouldn't get much water in the boat anyways. Spend a little more money and get one that will work. There is nothing worse than hitting some quick water and having to go ashore every ten minutes to empty the kayak because the pump won't work.
The NRS Bilge Pump will help you get the water out of your kayak quickly and efficiently. No hose necessary. The NRS Bilge 21" pump comes with a float to ensure you don't sink it to the bottom of the ocean. Stainless steel screws reduce rust build-up and keep everything moving smoothly. The Boat Sponge is the perfect complement to this item if you would like to get every drop out.
