The Prijon Balanced Wing Rudder is a foil shaped Glass filled nylon Rudder blade.
The Balanced Wing Rudder is for Prijon rudder-ready kayaks. All new Prijon Kayaks come with a V Block (rudder ready). If you have an older Prijon kayak that does not have a V Block, you need to purchase that item separately.
The Balanced Wing Rudder offers significant performance advantages over other sea kayak rudders. The wing-like shape of the rudder combined with glass-filled nylon construction results in a stiff, efficient blade which produces less drag than traditional kayak rudders. Because the rudder blade lines up directly beneath the pivot point of the steering mechanism, there is off area on each side of the pivot point, equalizing steering forces.
During turns, the braking effect common to other sea kayak rudders is eliminated. No more than light pressure on the foot pedals is ever required. The central position of the rudder–as well as its length–offers another advantage; it helps keep the rudder in the water, even when porpoising through large, steep waves.
The Balanced Wing Rudder boasts a bigger deployment wheel than other rudders, making raising and lowering the rudder easier.
All hardware, including cables, connectors and fittings, are of the highest quality stainless steel. Adjustment of the cables is accomplished using custom reusable clamps; no crimping is necessary.
