This is great for people who are hiking long distances to the put-ins. Wearing the kayak on your back takes the pain and weight off your shoulder reducing fatigue. Don't let your boof stroke suffer just because your shoulder is all sore and tight from carrying your kayak. This system is best for long hikes in/out and portages. For shorter portages around rapids, it is probably quicker and easier to just shoulder your kayak and suck it up.
Best portage pack out there! I like it because there is no rigid component so it folds up and packs away easily, which is important on overnighters. But, even while it is super packable, it still has very good support and thick, comfortable shoulder and waist straps. And, despite it being the Pyranha portage pack, it works well on any brand's creek boat or river runner.
The Pyranha Portage Pack is a simple to install, easy to adjust and use backpack system that takes the pain out the portage, which is a great thing for any whitewater kayaker.
All of the straps on the portage pack are fully adjustable, providing a stable, snug and secure fit.
The 5 connection points that give the pack its structure are made using the stern grab loop, the two security points found located behind the cockpit, straps that feed through the back rest, flipping it up to create a back rest for the pack and lastly by using the side release buckle on the hull stiffener.
Completely changing the face of walking with your kayak for miles off the water, if you do have to portage, make sure you do it with one of these!
