Sanuk was started in 1998, with 1998 being their first full year of production, Jeff Kelley's original shoes were constructed with inner tubes and indoor/outdoor carpet. Located in Southern California, with worldwide distribution, Sanuk strives to keep their designs funky and functional (as well as green).
Sanuk has eliminated the paper stuffing in their shoes and they ship products without boxes. This not only saves heaps of trees, it also allows them to ship twice as many in the same space as boxed shoes. By cutting their shipping size in half they also cut their fuel and freight usage in half. Sandal hangers are now made from recycled cardboard instead of plastic. Instead of boxes, shoes are packed in bags made of cornstarch which decompose quickly. Sanuk is also starting to use a new material called Trelon, which is a natural rubber substance, instead of EVA. |
